ONKYO TXS R605 7.1 AV RECEIVER ANY GOOD?

Read good and bad reviews on this av receiver. What is the verdict today, is it a waste of time and $? It is for a smaller room type atmosphereIf worth a toot, what speakers recommended?

It depends on how picky you are about sound quality... Onkyo has quite some models, from low end to high end, the 605 is not the lowest but closer to the low-end then mid-end. So naturally, there are enthusiastists who will pick on its shortcomings. So in the end, you need to find out how much you want to spend and how picky you are for the specs.

For most consumers, this model is very good at its price range. In fact, the mainstream electonics websit cnet. Com rated the best A/V receiver under $500.

Marantz models are generally for higher-end comsumers. The more direct competition comes from Yamaha, Denon or even Sony. At least, you can give the Yamaha model 663 a look (someone else actually pointed it out for me).

About speakers. Are you into 7.1? Or 5.1 is enough?

I mean, for a small room (well, I don’t know how small your room is) sometimes you might not want too many speakers all over the place. If your room is not acoustic-friendly, you will need physical speakers positioned properly around the room, give the KEF speakers some consideration if you are into high end, or for a value choice the Onkyo 240. Otherwise, you can consider virtual surround sound.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
