Paradigm shift par excellence?

Paradigm shift par excellence. In my late teens the writings of Arthur Schopenhauer seemed to open my eyes; almost like a rebirth - simultaneously pitching me into a depression, but then one can't have growth without pain. What was your college freshman "awakening" philosophically speaking?

Freud who was influenced by Schopenhauer as well as others. Freud, however attended medical school and became a psychiatrist which, in my opinion is science compared to metaphysics which includes not only philosophy but religion. One of Schopenhauer's famous books would have taken a different point (in my opinion) since I believe the correct translation should have read... The World as Will and One's Position on basic Questions" This would be a better translation of the implication within the term..."Vorstellung".

But that's just my opinion. He was smart enough to admit atheism at a time when the position was at least as unpopular as it is now, not among intellectuals, of course but among the loving public. He probably wouldn't have been so deterministic had he had the benefit of modern knowledge re the organic function of the Neocortex.

I gave up on Kant when I figured out that the ultimate implication of his existentialism was that ultimately, whether you decide on one position or the opposite…they are both valid.

2 I'm a Jung fan as well. In fact, I have a plaque in my office that says: Vocatus Atque Non Vacatus Deus Aderit (Invoked or not invoked the god is present) which is the epitaph on Jung's grave stone.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
