Parents: Do you think Statutory Rape Laws need to be reformed/Changed?

I agree with you ...They have 13,14,etc teenagers who commit murder and are convicted as an ADULT! Because the jury says they knew what they were doing . Okay so a 14 girl/boy who has sex with a 18 year old doesn't know what she /hes doing ok right!

I say shame on their parents and they are the ones who should be charged with the rape simply for not educating their children. I graduated from High School in 1987 and let me tell you about those male/female teachers back then. The coaches hit on me everyday one even brushed his hand on my rear and I said "EXCUSE ME!" of course he acted like it was by accident.

One coach left his wife and children for a classmate of mine and they are still married.My grandmother married at 14 to my grandfather who was 28 at the time. I think they have way to many SEX OFFENDER'S registered today and "STATUTORY RAPE" is a number one cause of this. So many of these Men and Women take a plea- bargain to lighten their sentence.

Then after they have served there sentence they are a REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER FOR LIFE! Not fair at all. Most days these teenagers come onto the older men and are WILD as heck!

My friends son was being accused of RAPE,but when the 14 said he didn't rape me the courts then changed it to STATUTORY RAPE because she just turned 14 and he was 16 but to be 17 yrs old in 7 months.My friend fought it cost her over 30k and it was dropped to contributing to a delinquent of a minor. Wow yea kinda sucks after 30 k, but he was looking at a 30 yr sentence what would you do? Most people do not have that kind of money to spend on an attorney and get charged with statutory rape.

I think when a teenager starts her menstrual cycle,she should be at legal age for consensual sex or the parents should be charged with the crime. I knew when I was in high school it was wrong and I never fed into those teachers and let them know that I would not tolerate it and I never even told my parents because my parents raised me well. I also have a friend was is serving 7 years for this crime and the girl pursued him.To top it off she become pregnant shortly after by another man and her parents signed for them to marry bc he was much older than her, but someone is in jail for it.

Its wrong wrong wrong! The law needs to change!

Yes Sex with someone under the age of consent is illegal - end of story NO account is made of the apparent age of the victim I have seen girls who look far older than their actual age. Even in their normal day to day "look" What you MIGHT see in court is a girl dressed in school uniform (MAYBE) looking her actual age. What you actually see on the street, is the same girl looking say 5 years older.

So I see absolutely no reason why the "apparent" age of the "victim" at the time of the "crime" should not be taken into account. Also as you say some girls say 12-16 are FAR MORE wordly wise than some 16-18 year olds. But neither is this taken into account.

It is TOTALY unfair for 1 person to be automatically the guilty party,. When NO account is made of the appearance, morality or mental age of the "victim.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
