POLL/SURVEY: How do you prepare for a power outage due to an Ice Storm?

Zeb I'm used to being in the dark, since I am a cave man. Lol Ours went out last week for a few hours, fortunately for us, it happened close to bed time, did come back on around 2am then went back out around 5 then by 8am all was well. Other than being too hot to sleep everything was fine.

I know where my flashlights are at all times and we have some kerosene lanterns that are easy to get on line when needed. Three years ago Arkansas and Oklahoma had a major ice storm that left several hundred thousand with out power. Ours was out for nearly 3 days, not so bad since we live 25 miles out from town.

Some of those town folks were out as long as 2 weeks, some even as long as a month. It looked like a battle field, nearly all of the tree tops were broken or had broken limbs and hundreds of power poles broken from the weight of the ice hanging on the lines. So just having the power out is not a problem at all, as long as you are able to stay warm and dry or having sustenance and shelter.

You know how important food is to me. Lol I would like to buy a good generator this year, just in case we have repeat ice storm. Out of the 37 years living here in Ar.

I've only seen 1 other storm that came close to that one. What helped us was having an old 12 volt car battery, I used it to power a Panasonic radio. It's nice to know what's happening in the rest of the world even when you don't want to be part of it.

Take care Zeb things are bound to get worse before they get better.:).

Then it's time to break out the Coleman stuff; lanterns, Ice coolers, propane stoves. Edit: in fact the picture on my avatar was taken at a rented mountain cabin without running water, or electricity. My wife and I took, lanterns that use batteries, a coleman stove that uses propane, and we took a lot of ice for our cooler.

Thankfully, the cabin had a wood stove, so I cut wood for the trip, and we cooked outside.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
