Problems while connecting laptop to tv via HDMI cable?

If you have selected the HDMI input into which you've connected the laptop, you definitely should not be hearing audio from another source. That is quite odd and if you've accurately described it, suggests a switching problem inside your TV. Here's what should happen: laptops generally don't supply sound on the HDMI connector.

On some of them you can option that via the Control Panel, but not all.
