Question about english grammar?

The first one. "Pair" is a single unit (even though its made up of two things) and it constitutes the subject of the verb. "of spectacles" is a prepositional phrase so while it's important to the meaning of the sentence, it doesn't effect the number of the subject.

It's the same principle as with "None of them was ready for what would happen next" None, which is a contraction of "not one" is a singular, so the verb is conjugated in the singular. -- I know that I'm in the minority of respondents here, but trust me, I'm right with this one. "A pair of pants" "A pair of scissors" All of these things, much like "a pair of spectacles" or a "a pair of glasses" are singular, as evidenced by the fact that they have are marked by the singular indefinite article "a" (you can't apply this to plural nouns - think "a child" vs "a children:" which one's right?) If you didn't have the word "pair" then it would be "are" missing.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
