Questions for new members of askville, do you know how to get an avatar? Has your initial experience been a positive one?

Has your initial experience been a positive one There are some good prior posts on getting an Avatar. If you don't know how to do it here is a link to some helpful answers. askville.amazon.com/avatar/AnswerViewer.... is a website where you can get an avatar (there are several if you google Avatar) free-avatars.com/Also, has your experience here been positive?

Do you have questions about rules, written or otherwise? Have you had any particularly positive or negative experiences that you want to share? Welcome to the community!

My best advice would be to play nice. For the most part members are great, but like any community there are a few who are not so nice and if you happen upon them don't get sucked into their negative ways, just ignore them (as hard as that may be at times) and have fun! How to get a avitar-and being a new member. Being a newbie has been very positive--I'm afraid that askville is my new guilllty pleasure. Everyone has been very helpful.

I'm afraid I've already made a few mistakes and for that I apogize. Like answering questions instead of leaving something in the discussion area-thus tying up a place for a truly good answer. Live and learn.

Speaking of living and learning, I have already learned some new things since joining as well as just having fun. Everyone has been friendly and helpful, and I really appreciate that. I will try to pay that foreward.

I think one thing that would have helped me is seeing a larger "Frequently Asked Questions" symbol. Being a baby boomer--thus I can't see as well as I once could --I totally missed seeing it. I would have been more aware if I had read this first instead of rushing in blindly. It's funny how quickly the people seem "real" to you.

I haven't been able to remember everyone I've "talked" to yet, but one in particular seems very nice and helpful and I feel she lives alone, and she wasn't on yesterday and now I'm thinking I hope she's ok-like you would one of your friends. Thank you for taking the time to help a newbee. I'm going to try and get an avitar today.

Goodbye! Said: 1 What a great question to post! Hopefully this might even start a trend toward recognizing and greeting new members every now and then with questions.

Wonderful idea, BosM! .

2 Thanks for asking this question, BosM. Not to give this an overly-negative spin, but I'm particularly interested in hearing about confusing or negative experiences. We were all newbies at one time, and many of us vets would welcome the opportunity to explain the confusing parts, or be a sounding board for experiences that may have been less than positive.

3 I agree, this is a great question. I think getting rid of the green man & getting a new avatar is the first step to really getting in the spirit of being on here. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted, & I had to ask how to do it.

But I'm known as the squirrel & that's fun to me. Good advise up there, BosM.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
