I think Uzair makes a great point that people really can interpret things and twist them to meet what they personally believe. I don't think that that example is spelling out pork being evil or prohibited, it just says the pig isn't a cow, it's a pig, and pigs are dirty..... (ok, so it's the NEXT verse that spells it out! , ok, it would make more sense then if the next verse was quoted, right?
Oh and THREE verses state it, then why did you pick the one quote that doesn't prohibit it? I'm only going by what you are using as an example) Anyways, back to the question. Just like every other religion, and even politics, you have extreme radicals, who are ultra conservative, and you have the middle of the road and you have the liberal, more easy going religious people.
Even in christianity you have extreme radicals who will go and kill in the name of God. Case in point, that abortion clinic doctor, I think it was in Tennessee, who was shot by that christian guy claiming to do God's work because the doctor was evil. Same with the radical muslims who are taliban or al-qaeda, or any other religion, there are radicals who go extreme, killing in the name of God or Allah or whoever.
So sure they can call themselves christians and muslims etc depending on how they interpret their religious works, even if they kill. Many muslims feel killing is evil and wrong, but then again maybe they interpret the Quran differently? Maybe christians interpret "an eye for an eye" or other stories about fathers killing sons and sacrificing wives or whatever the stories say, because their faith was being tested.
I personally believe that violence and close mindedness is a disease running rampant. Intolerance is becoming a norm. Hatred, a way of life.
And it's sad. As humans though, there will always be violence and war. It's part of human nature.
Edit: Uzair, I wasn't saying you were wrong about your point, I only meant your example didn't mention prohibiting eating swine, so why didn't you use the next verse instead of that verse? That's all. I'm taking your written example.
You said it clearly stated something, but if it was the next verse... you didn't use the next verse, which actually stated the prohibition. Otherwise, I completely agreed with your point. Ps.
Uzair, Why do you assume I'm christian? You said "you guys should know your scripture"? I'm being objective.
Edit: Oh sorry Uzair! No offense! I didn't give you any TD either, I liked your answer, I just was confused with your one comment :) It's all good!
...it seems you really think about what you hear...see actually the matter is that Islam really is the religion of peace. But the fact is that all the Muslims don't follow what the religion actually says; its the same with all other religions including Christianity, I'm 100 % sure that all the Christians don't follow Bible, for instance, in the book of Leviticus, Chapter 11, Verse 7 it says "And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you." now this clearly states that pork is prohibited but yet almost all the Christians do eat so does it mean that the bible says not to eat? Its just so simple see the things you mentioned are all forbidden, The Quran says that killing a single innocent human means killing the whole humanity so how could a person who kills innocents be a Muslim if he's not following his religion?
The same thing with marriage, marriage with an 8 year old is no way allowed, but if some people do it out of ignorance or any reason does that mean the religion teaches that? Obviously NO. The person who does so is not following his religion he's not a proper Muslim.
In fact I don't think any religion could teach violence if its from GOD. And plz don't judge Muslims by seeing Al-Qaeda or Christians by observing KKK its just that these people use the name of the religion to create hatred. If you want to judge the religion by its followers then see the real followers, observe the life of Jesus Christ (P.B.U.H.) to see what Christianity is about or see the life of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) to know what a true muslim actually is.
I don't know your religion but if you do something wrong will that mean all the people of your religion do the same? Does that describe your religion? Obviously the answer is NO...its just common sense.
Now about the Taliban and Al-Qaeda, i've personally ever met them so I don't know whether they are or not but if they do something wrong, that is against the laws of Islam then they cannot be Muslims. I would recommend you to watch this video and you'll know the truth... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzoXcEOFH... --------------------------------------... comment to "G Love" I'm really sorry dude I actually assumed that you guys read and know your own scriptures but I was wrong. So answering your question, yes the Bible prohibits it.
Have you never read the next verse? The next verse (Leviticus, Chapter 11, Verse 8) says; "Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch, they are unclean to you." What do you think does this verse say?
Just an advice, always think twice before you point at someone. As for to convince you, also read the Verse 8 of Chapter 14 in the book of Deuteronomy...and...Verse 2-5 of Chapter 65 in the book of Isaiah. Aren't three verses enough for you?
BTW no offence guys, I mean that was just an example to prove my point. --------------------------------------... edit comment to G Love i'm really sorry but I was already a bit frustrated on this topic somewhere else and then saw yours and thought you too were a christian...i hope you didn't mind.....
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
