Removing black stains from hardwood floor I have black stains left from cat urine on my hardwood floor. Anyone have any suggestions for removing them? I have tried bleach.

Here's a method that might work for you. #Determine if the stain has penetrated the wood finish. If you catch urine before it has seeped below the surface, you have a much easier job on your hands.

Use water and a mild disinfectant if you are dealing with a fresh stain. Read on if you have something more permanent to deal with. #Step 2Strip down the stained area by sanding off the wood floor finish.It is a good idea to go ahead and strip and sand the entire wood floor, but this is much more time consuming.

#Step 3Create a stain removal solution. Mix together 1 cup of hot water and a tbsp. Of oxalic acid.

Make more solution if you have multiple stains, but maintain the same ratio. #Step 4Pour the stain solution on the wood floor. Apply the mix generously; this is not a time to "use sparingly.

" Leave the solution on the floor overnight (or for at least several hours). #Step 5Wipe away the oxalic acid mix with warm water and a sponge. Your stain should be gone or significantly reduced.

A: (Bruce Johnson, Ask DIY Woodworking Expert) I had a refinishing shop for more than 10 years, and one of the biggest problems I faced was how to get rid of stains in wood. The stains fall into two categories: white rings and black marks. Both are caused by water.

When it's trapped in the finish, it's a white ring. When it gets a chance to penetrate into the wood, you have a black mark. The white rings aren't so hard to take care of.

Use a pad of very fine steel wool and drench it with lemon oil. The lemon oil won't remove the stain, but it lubricates the steel wool so that it doesn't scratch the wood. Very gently buff out the white ring with the fine steel wool (figure A).

You could rub black marks all day, however, and they'll never come out. The only way to remove them is to remove the finish and then attack the stain. The problem when you try that with a fine antique?

When you take off the finish, you lower the value. On the floor, though, that's not an issue. In fact, putting a new finish on a hardwood floor actually increases the value of your house.So first sand the finish off the wood.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
