Not for one blessed moment. My daughter was born and spent two weeks in the neo-natal ICU. Total bill to us...$93.00 for the lounge chair we rented rather then sit in her room in the normal chairs.
My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Surgery and 8 months of follow on treatment included. Total bill to her.....$0.00 My father had a heart attack this summer.
Turns out he required quadrupal bypass surgery. 1.5 weeks in the hospital, both pre surgery and post surgery care and the total bill to him....$160.00 but that was only because we "charged" for parking each day. What did all of this care cost us?
Nothing other then our normal taxes here in Canada. No co-pay, no health screening, no need to worry about "pre-existing conditions" and no need to worry about coverage being cancelled. Have I ever waited more then the briefest of time in an emergency room?
Not when it was serious. When I had to go to the emerg for something routine after hours or on weekends there was a wait but only because more serious patients were ahead of us. I couldn't afford this kind of treatment if I had to pay for it and I couldn't afford this kind of coverage if I had to pay for it directly either.
Is our system perfect? Certainly not but it is far and away better then what is available in the US.
If the Canadian government ever allowed an American style health care system in Canada, there'd be a goddam revolution. Nuff' said.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
