The answer is not as simple as what would be better when it comes to healthcare as it completely depends on how the government chooses to control healthcare and where they make changes. If the government healthcare is just a continuation of insurance like coverage than it will be very similar just more available. In order to bring down the price of healthcare you must dismantle the insurance companies.
There needs to be a separation between those who insure doctors and hospitals and those who provide for patients. The legals system also must be adjusted. Not every death is malpractice and the false sense of the cost of life is a problem The healthcare system should be held accountable for gross negligence, but cannot continue to settle every case for hundreds of thousands of dollars because that is cheaper than going to court and proving their innocence. So much many in the system is spent on saving themselves from being sued or defending the process against suits currently being fought.
Corruption and collusion within the insurance companies definitely drive up the cost for the healthcare industry and nothing in the current proposals by the government do anything to address this issue.
Government-controlled health care would lead to a decrease in patient flexibility. At first glance, it would appear universal health care would increase flexibility. After all, if government paid for everything under one plan, you could in theory go to any doctor. However, some controls are going to have to be put in to keep costs from exploding.
