Series two tivo with comcast cable. Issue with channel always changing from channel three disabling cable, Help! My moms system...her comcast cable only works when the tivo is set to channel three.
The problem is when she is recording two things at once the tivo changes to one of the recorded channels which dis-ables the cable. The only way back is to cancel one of the recordings and reset the tivo to channel three. Is there any way around this?
Thanks for any and all help. Asked by Chaz1959 45 months ago Similar questions: Series tivo comcast cable Issue channel changing disabling Help Entertainment > Television.

Dish Network and Cable with Tivo Archived from groups: alt.video.ptv. Tivo (More info? ) I have a TiVo series 2 box and botha Dish Network DISH311 receiver andComcast cable with a Motorola digital STB.
After some learning curve, I am happilyrecording with TiVo from both sources;TiVo switches automatically to the appropriatesource for each channel. Tivo is great! Yet there are some glitches that reallyshould be addressed.
TiVo could fix themall, though one of them is really Dish Network's fault. Real Problem #1:The worst glitch, which causes loss of dataand much gnashing of teeth, is that Dish Network'sbox gets its panties in a knot if youaccidentally go to a channel you don't subscribeto. It displays the message'AttentionThis is a subscription channel which has notbeen purchased.... Press the "UP" or "DOWN"arrow button to change channels.'It then refuses all further input until youpress the up or down buttons on the remote.
What's wrong about that? It means that theunit ignores all further channel change requestsfrom TiVo. This means you could lose a week'sworth of recordings if you don't check to makesure the box isn't in this state.
This happens occasionally even if you haveeverything set up properly, and it's a realannoyance. TiVo could work around this easilyby always sending "channel up" before sending thenumbers when controlling a satellite.(Sincethis is an awful kludge, perhaps it should beconfigurable. Just as AOL lets you saywhat you need to dial to get an outside line, perhaps TiVo should let you say what whackyworkaround it should use when changing channels.
)I guess I should report this to TiVo. I haven't yet,but I will soon. The next glitch is that telling the TiVo whichchannels come from which input is painful.
The TiVo screen that lets you do thisis Setup / Settings / Channels / Channels You Receive. Real problem #2:That screen has a bug: after you clear ten or fifteen channels,it drops out of the mode without saving. Youhave to laboriously save after each ten clicks.
Enhancement request #3:Although there is a way to clear allchannels, there is no way to clear just thecable or just the satellite channels. Thatwould be most helpful. In particular, wesubscribe to all cable channels, but only twoof the thousand Dish Network channels. We had to click about two hundred times to setthis up properly.
A 'clear all satellite channels'would have brought this down to ten or twenty clicks.(The symptom of having the Channels You Recieveset up wrong is that TiVo picks the satellitewhen it should have picked cable, so you get the nasty"Attention: this is a subscription channel..."dialog, and all further TiVo recordings areruined because of problem #1. The quickway to check if you're going to run intothis while recording your season passesis to look at the To Do list screen, and verify that no improper satellitechannels show up there. If they do, goto "Channels you Receive" and disable them.
)I hope this info is useful, if only to letpeople know that TiVo does indeed workfairly well with both cable and dish networkhooked up together. Sources: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/27379-4-dish-network-cable-tivo .
Comcast cable Long answer:You need a "Cablecard Decoder" for your TiVo, which you will have to get from your cable company. Your best bet is probably to just go to the local cable office to ask about it, or call them first. I have no idea how expensive they are or if you have to rent them or buy them, but they're a little card that goes into your TiVo to allow it to decode the digital signals.
You have to have a TiVo that supports this and I'm not sure what all models do. Series 3 and "Tivo HD DVR" definitely do (I have a Series 2 and an HD DVR). I'm pretty sure Series 2 does not have the Cablecard slot.
If you aren't sure, go to tivo. Com and find your model in the shop and see if it lists Cablecard support as a feature. That said, I plug my cable straight into my Tivo with no cable box and no Cablecard and I can watch and record every channel I care about.
Obviously I'm missing out on digital content but I've determined that I don't actually care. :-p Sources: http://askville.amazon.com/connecting-comcast-cable-box-TiVo-Recommendations/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=13869016 .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
