Should "Big Government" create a safe, sane and stable society or just let the peeps do whatever they want?

There isnt any way a large society could operate without structure. For example, look at gangs. Law enforcement has, over the years, learned to target the "head of the snake".

They take out the leadership and structure, and the remaining gang completely falls apart. They have no direction, no structure, and they also have no unified purpose. So they start operating for their own benefit, or break up in to much smaller organizations.

Tribes or small communities could probably do this ok, and they have. Because they accept what they need to do in order to contribute to society, and they accept what they get back. However, it only takes one or two greedy bastards in the bunch to screw that up.

It's more complex than that. The misconception here is that in the absence of government there must inherently be an absence of organization. Our society has developed over centuries under the influence of government.

If it had not, we would be much better suited to surviving on our own. Unfortunately it is impossible for modern folks to separate government and community. The removal of involuntary hierarchies can only work if everyone in the given community wanted and understood the responsibility involved.

That's why only small groups can pull it off.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
