Instead of adding new laws, maybe we should start repealing old laws. I argue all the time that sending these millions upon millions of people to jail for victimless crimes is a waste of time and tax payer money... Do people realize that America jails more people than any other country, including China? That this costs tax payers 50 billion dollars a year... not withstanding the removal of these people from the workforce?
But here you bring up another CRITICAL reason to repeal these evil laws, its not just the adults who are punished, but the children who are pushed into the public foster care. These well meaning laws rip apart families, and its no wonder these children can grow up to be criminals too. If there isn't a victim, there isn't a crime.
I think that what's good for the goose is good for the gander and vice-versa. The major point here is that just because it's a non- violent crime doesn't mean it's good for children to be around. For instance is smoking crack violent?
No it's not. However I don't think raising a child in a single parent house with a crack addicted mother is any better than taking the child out of that enviroment.
I don’t think you should particularly just separate mothers who are offenders; if you bring in a law like this it should be for all people who have committed non-violent crimes. There must be a punishment though, otherwise there would be a lot more people committing crimes. Perhaps using the ankle bracelets this restricting these criminals to their home would work – it’s a lot cheaper and the person is still incarcerated, albeit it a nice prison.
Also, in the case of mothers, the child is not punished as they will still be able to see their mother.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
