Well, Peter, this is a question of Morality. What is right and what is wrong. To answer your question we must first establish what is Right and wrong.
Morality is a definition that is held by more than one person. It is a shared idea because the morality of a single person is moot. One person alone has no purpose for morality.
Only when you have others in the same existence does morality become a question. Morality serves the purpose of peaceful coexistence. Example... Don't rob me, hit me, take what is mine or attempt to kill me or I will be at war with you.
War is the opposite of peace. For a peaceful coexistence, two things must be agreed upon. First is that we must have truth between us... (if you lie to me, I cannot trust anything else.) And the second is that we must negotiate all things in Love.
(this is where most people have trouble but just hear it out.) If I am to negotiate a peaceful existence I have to establish what it is that I need... from here I will put in the slide of Mazlo's Hierarchy of Needs. What we need is food, shelter, security, relationship...oops, there it is. We need relationship.
People thrive best in a loving and connected environment. Mother and child... Friends... relatives... countrymen... et al. A perfect Society or coexistence is one that is built on love.
...so where was I.... oh yes... Right and wrong now become servants of the goal, connection. They now are defined by the purpose and that means they are defined by Love. Is it wrong to kill a man?
...the goal is connection and coexistence? I would say that is a big yes.
If this is your homework for a class, you'd have to look up what "consequentialist" means. Personally, I wouldn't do it. In the real world, the information on the impact of any persons disappearance is unknown.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
