I would first try David's Bridal! I am the same way and went through all of this just a month ago! Sweetheart top looks the best and definitely go with floorlength ballgown.
Those silky ones I tried on showed my "curves" way too much for comfort. Make sure she chooses something that is very comfortable yet cute! So David's is the perfect place to get it!
The length I gave as my source is the PERFECT dress and it happens to be mine!
I went into the official David Bridals site and found several that I thought were very elegant and most come in several colors. This one I thought was very cute and would be a perfect dress for someone a little larger. This years color is teal .

IIf it were me I would choose a dress that is either floor length or just below the knee. Many women hide in black but it is easy to find. I have heard that purple is a popular color this year.
There are some cute dresses (prom or otherwise) at Torrid. Its a good place to shop for trendy clothes. They don't make you feel oversized or old (like many plus sizes do).
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
