I'm not sure where you are from, but drink prices will be the same as you would expect to find in a major city, like NYC or DC. About $8/mixed drink, $10-12 for the special drink of the day. Soda's were about $2/each, or you can buy an unlimited soda card at the beginning of your trip for about $20-25.
Good deal if you drink a lot of soda! They also charge tips (20%? If I can remember right).
Water, coffee, and juice is free. As for beer, I'd say about $4-7/beer. Be careful when you visit the bar -- you don't pay cash, as everything gets added to your room card -- it's very easily to spend rack up a high bill when you're aren't watching the cash leave your wallet!
As for the rooms, an interior stateroom was always fine for me! Unless you need a view of the outdoors to keep your bearings straight, interior rooms are spacious enough. If you are a larger person, you may want to consider a balcony however, or a handicapped accessible room which provide a little more space.
You hardly spend any time in your room, so I would recommend saving the money for the extra things like excursions and drinks. The only downside of an interior stateroom is you never know what the weather is like until you leave your room and get to the nearest window. Most ships have a tv channel though with a video camera showing you a view outside to solve this problem!
On average, I pay about $700-800 for the cruise itself for an interior room (7 days leaving from Miami/NYC going to the Caribbean), and I spend about another $50-100 on drinks, and about $200 on excursions. Plus whatever you want to spend on shopping! Remember, tips are going to be added onto your bill as well if they weren't pre-paid when you booked.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
