UPDATE: Mahalo is adding a M¢25 tip to all questions that don't offer a tip as an experiment?

I like it. Creative Commons by VJ_fliks flickr.com/photos/30845561@N00/52270356 Look at how quickly change starts to add up! Creative Commons by dmuth flickr.com/photos/dmuth/3245821105/in/se... THIS IS WHAT $250 IN QUARTERS LOOKS LIKE!

I totally love this idea, even though I'm not here just for the tips! Although, I can't complain when someone gives me a quarter for something I did in the past for free. I think it might appeal to some users more than others, though. It reminds me of collecting cans on the street for the 5 cent rewards, but you actually have to think about this, because you know that every question you answer can reward you with a nice shiny quarter!

Why is Mahalo not giving us a quarter for all of our previous best answers that were not tipped? Can Mahalo do this, or this is something they are just going to let slide?

This is a good idea. It's a little bit like the "revenue sharing" that other sites like Associated Content, where the contributors (who are the ones actually creating the value) earn something for everything they actually contribute. I was actually away from Mahalo for a few weeks, I was a little disenchanted when the site was partially or totally unavailable for hours at a time.

I was engaged with the community and enjoying the experience, and it was very souring to try to access the service and not be able to do so. While I'm not in this entirely for the money, I want to be here in a long-term context. That may mean, at $0.25 a question, that I'll see my balance grow even if I'm only answering questions that engage my attention and interest, instead of also gauging tip vs time as closely.

Good thinking!

Thats an ok idea, but it could use imporovement.

The idea is good, but It's buggy, it's annoying, it's poorly implemented.

Seems like a good idea and might stop people only answering the questions with a tip. Now we might get answers for everything else as well.

I don't think I agree. Although I would gladly take the extra earnings - I would not say I agree that adding the tip to every question would really encourage "quality" answers. In actuality, if people are interested in simply providing a large quantity of answers in hopes of answering at least a few of them well, the $0.25 tip could inspire them to answer even more questions in less time, providing less useful information.

However, without having the results user/usage data before and after this experiment took place, I could not say for sure!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
