1 I use water (7/8), white vinegar (1/8) and a few drops of dish soap for just about everything in the house. You can go a little stronger on the vinegar if you like, but don't do too much on the soap. Mixed in a spray bottle, it cleans counter tops, floors, windows, appliances.....we don't use much else except on the furniture or when bleach is required for either whitening or sanitation.
Even then you can use a separate spray bottle and put in the same proportions of water and bleach as you did with the water and vinegar, add a couple drops of dish soap, and you are good to go for sanitizing counters, cleaning the inside of white mugs and bowls, etc.
2 I don't know if it is in print, but look for a copy of. Cheaper and Better: Homemade Alternatives to Storebought Goods by Nancy Birnes. The title is self-explanatory.It also includes recipes for home-made versions of all sorts of processed foods.
MMacD replied to post #2: 3 Borax is also a great bug killer. (20 Mule Team Borax is usually in the laundry aisle). It kills bugs by drying them out.
Spread it around the edges of your house (inside) and leave it there. Sprinkle it in the carpet, on the furniture, etc. , and a few hours later vaccuum. You don't want your child or pet to eat big gobs of it, but it isn't very toxic in small amounts.
Baking soda can be made into a paste to scrub your bathtub, sinks. As other posts have said, it's a great deodorizer. Sprinkle it into carpet instead of the commercial rug deodorizers, set a small bowl of it in your kitchen for onion or fish smells.
You can drink this stuff as a antacid, so it's not toxic at all. I think vinegar and baking soda will clean almost anything in your house. You may want bleach for mold/mildew cleaning.
Rinse your face in baking soda water--not a paste--and it will be very soft .
Some home are slim - he hates extra carry-on things. He told me last night he would rather me buy a new pair of shoes (& his nickname for me is Imelda!) I may just have to wait until I go there myself!
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
