What are some symbols in the scarlet letter?

1. Scarlet Letter: was ment to represent Adulterer but overtime the meaning shifts and becomes Hester's identity + reminder of her sin, like Pearl 2. The Scaffold: represents the platform of judgement.

Dimmesdale had difficulty going up on the scaffold. He first does it at night where no one can see him, but later confesses on it during the day, infront of everyone. He then finds peace 3 The Meteor: Dimmesdale thinks that the meteor is saying that he should wear a mark of shame like Hester, but the villagers think it represents angel It exemplifies the difference of symbol interpretation between literary and the Puritans 4 The Red Mark on Dimmesdale's Chest: represents his sin against God + his sin is more permanent on him then Hester cus his is marked onto his skin where Hester's is made out of thread 5.

Colors: Hester dresses herself in dull colors to show her melancholy mood, but dresses Pearl with bright colors to represent the scarlet letter + to show that Pearl is full of life.
