It's difficult to chose a favourite between the four we've had since they've all appeared in such unique episodes and for different duration's. It's hard to say you preferred David Tennant to Christopher Eccleston as you cannot properly compare the two as Tennant starred in three series whereas Eccleston was only in the first series. If I had to chose I think I would say David Tennant because I loved to see how he changed and developed over each episode, how, sometimes, he looked so lonely and at others he was dancing around saying how he'd invented banana daiquiri a couple centuries early.
I also felt as though I had grown to now him as a friend over his years on the show whereas I barely knew Eccleston because of his short series long stint and Matt Smith's Doctor seemed more like an innocent child only their for comedic appeal, not the Doctor who saved galaxies and planets from destruction. However I do see Peter Capaldi as a likely contender for taking David Tennant's spot at the top. You can see in Capaldi's performance how much he loves being the Doctor and it's nice to have a fan of the show actually being the main character of it.
I'm also fascinated by his personality and how he's almost a flash from the past and much more like his classic regeneration with all the bottled up anger and hate. I can't wait to see how he develops as a character over the next few series! As for best episodes, I have quite a few and all for very different reasons: Silence in the Library/The Forest of the Dead: This is a prime example of a modern-era monster that was so perfectly executed it feels as though it could be from the classic-era.
It was also a very tense episode and began the introduction of the River Song plot line which was very interesting. The Stolen Earth/Journey's End: Anyone who says they didn't enjoy these episodes must be crazy. They were so action-packed and emotional and it was so interesting to see all the companions together again and don't even get me started on what a tear-jerker it was.
Army of Ghosts/Doomsday: Two more absolute tear-jerking episodes and I think we all know why. The finale of series two was absolutely gut wrenching however the unexpected introduction of future companion Donna Noble added intrigue to the overall episode. Blink: Again, this is another beautifully composed episode demonstrating how great a modern-era monster can be when done properly.
This episode saw the introduction of the Weeping Angels which, I think are one of the scariest monsters on Doctor Who therefore this episode has certainly earned its place. Midnight: I don't what it was about this episode but I found it absolutely terrifying. The build up of tension and the monster is possibly another one of the scariest monsters on Doctor Who and the fact it remains unseen and unknown only adds to the terror.
The Girl in the Fireplace: This was always one of my favourite episodes on the show. I loved how it felt like viewers were looking at a time capsule of Madame de Pompadour through the Doctor who had made a connection with her over her entire life. I thought it was a really beautiful episode and I did have a little cry at the end.
Also, the Clockwork Droids have haunted me ever since, their faces were just so terrifying. Mummy on the Orient Express: I absolutely adored this episode. It felt just like watching a galactic Agatha Christie episode however this one was much, much better than the Unicorn and the Wasp.
Last Christmas: This was simply the best Doctor Who Christmas special in a long, long time! It felt very similar to Amy's Choice however Last Christmas was done much better by introducing Dream Crabs which I found truly petrifying and the plot twist at the end really wrapped this show up and, to be honest, having Nick Frost play Santa Claus was a true stroke of genius!
From the modern series, I'd say Peter Capaldi. He has more of a 'classic' Doctor feel than the others. I can't really choose a favourite episode, there are just too many!
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
