What are the pros & cons of the Opera webbrowser? I'm considering using it, is there anything I should know about it?

The only real risk is wasting your time. Opera is renowned for being fast and lightweight, and has several useful developer tools. It supports Flash and Java plugins.

The biggest problem you will probably face when using it will be encountering pages, particularly on corporate intranets and similar sites, which do not work properly with Opera. Currently in ver. 9.1. Bad: Not totally compatible with a few websites.It appears to have problems with a few Web 2.0 sites, such as this one. (Also Netflix and a few others.

) So for those few sites, I use Firefox. Doesn't work for Microsoft sites (naturally. ) So for that one site, I use IE.

So I use it as my default browser, and the others when it doesn't work..

The biggest con It's got less than 1% market share so for companies developing fancy ajax applications it's not high on their priority list. So for example, so sites such as Askville and Gmail don't work perfectly in Opera, and some other sites block Opera entirely. The latter is a stupid decision on the part of the developers though because more often than not Opera can indeed render the pages just fine.To get around that you can easily set Opera to identify itself as IE or Mozilla, which works sometimes.

It's my favorite browser I've never been fond of IE because of the security issues. Back when Netscape was a browser rather a site, that's what I used until I found Opera. Opera is good for a number of reasons other than being not IE.It's fast, easy to use and has all the little bells and whistles we think we need in a browser.

Opera reloads from the cache more quickly and efficiently than any browser I've used, including Mozilla. I'm not a patient person. When I hit the back key, I want it to go back!

I also prefer Opera's password manager; it gives you more control than others. Its quick preferences has the options I want to be there, unlike some other browsers. Opera isn't as good at identfying as IE as Mozilla is and it does run a little slower on some systems.
