I'm sorry, but I think it is totally inappropriate to build a mosque at ground zero. Although 9-11 was carried out by extreme Islamic terrorists and the entire community cannot be held responsible for it, the pain of all of those that lost friends and family members that day is very real. Their plan to open it on the 10th anniversary is is deliberate and they know that it's wrong.
I can't believe that in the entire city of New York there is nowhere else that the Islamic center can be built. With everything else going on in the country and in the world, and the frustration that people are feeling, I think it can only lead to some very ugly consequences.
America is supposed to be a secular democratic country, where everyone is supposed to enjoy certain civil liberties. America needs to understand that not all muslims are terrorists nor Islam a bad religion. A mosque is basically just another place of worship, what if a church was being built in the same location instead of a mosque?
Would it give rise to any issues?
I think that some people overreacted and acted like the aim of having a mosque near where the Twin Towers once stood meant that they were creating some kind of terrorist farm there. I'm not disgusted by it, but I think it's pretty ballsy to have the mosque officially opened on September 11, 2011. I can definitely understand the rage associated with a mosque now being tied to Ground Zero, but I've always wondered why people react so much against something so hard, even before they do not see the final product yet.
I also feel like the people who are behind building this mosque didn't think over their use of this tragedy to promote religion and cultural relations too well.
I think it is a step in the right direction. People need to realize that a mosque is very similar to a church and not quite the terrorist boot camps some might think they are. I think the real controversy will come if the mosque starts playing there service through loudspeakers like in the Dearborn Mosque."There was a court ruling to allow the calling for prayers to be transmitted through outside speakers.
It was the first mosque in the United States to be allowed to transmit call prayers through loudspeakers. " I'm hoping NYC is a little more open minded, people thought they were being brainwashed, but when they hear church bells they think nothing of it.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
