What book is #1 on the New York Times Best-Seller list for NON-FICTION?

No, surprisingly, it does NOT mean that. I recommend you read a book by Dan Poynter called "THE SELF-PUBLISHING MANUAL." It's a guide to help non-fiction authors self-publish their books; it doesn't focus on fictional stories, but he attacks some of the myths about the publishing industry.

Granted, a book that is EVERYWHERE like "Twilight" or "The Da Vinci Code" is actually a million-seller; but the best-seller list in the New York Times is hardly as comprehensive as one might think. It only surveys a couple of bookstores in Manhattan, so people who are getting a novel published will (for the first run) only have 500 copies printed and distributed to these select stores. THEN... they really do have their friends run in and buy a copy, as many time as they can.

Thus, the author sells out his first 500 books, but that is enough to push it into the top 10. Then it is officially on the list, and can now be honestly called a "best-seller." Then the publisher expands the print run for the second run, putting "New York Times Best-Seller" on the cover.

So, many books published in NYC ARE best-sellers, but only for four or five weeks, total. If a book like "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" is on top for six months, you can bet it's a million-seller...

It means your book sold more copies than the other books on the list, so probably more than a million.

Such books come and go - as did the Obama self serving books. I donated all mine but kept "The Roots of Obama's Rage" and figured Hillary's big fat tome would just be self self drivel in the same vein as Obama's. At least Trump knows how to make money...lose money....make more money....

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
