Sorry, this question is asked often So I'm going to reuse one of my answers. It's the most complete I have. The only current use would be to purchase superpowers to use here on Askville.
There’s the Voting Authority Superpower, that let’s you vote on answers to questions that you neither asked nor answered. You do not earn any coins for these votes, ever. There’s the Coin Multiplier Superpower.
This allows you to multiply the amount of coins that you earn based on your level in a certain topic. There’s an L1 and L2 coin multiplier. Each one is only available for a limited time each day.
The superpowers are explained in this section of the FAQ, though I included some information that’s not found there. askville.amazon.com/askville/superpowerf... You can purchase superpowers here if you wish. askville.amazon.com/askville/SuperpowerS... In the future, quest coins will be used on Questville, but for now it’s just a blank site.
askville.amazon.com/askville/questville/... This is the text from the FAQ that explains the coins. Quest Coins is a virtual currency on Askville that users can earn by participating on Askville. To encourage participation and reward great answers, Askville users can earn Quest Coins based on specific actions you take.
The table below summarizes the number of Quest Coins you can earn for different actions. Eventually you will be able to use Quest Coins when we launch Questville. Com (coming in 2007).

Welcome, aj0905... At the moment, quest coins are not worth anything too special. If you concentrate on one topic and answer a lot of questions..you will receive points that will bring you up from level 0 to level 1...and higher. You will then be able to purchase a 'super power' and have the opportunity to double your coins earned when you use your 'super power' before answering questions in that topic. In the near future, we will be able to use our quest coins in Questville...but no one knows for sure jsut what Questville will be.
There's been a lot of speculation...maybe in Questville we will be able to purchase Amazon products with our coins...Maybe be able to bid on products in an auction...or...maybe Questville will be some kind of game... For me, I like to use my coins as my personal 'score card'...sometimes get a little competitive and try to pass another Askvillian in the coin count... But all I can say...is enjoy asking and answering questions...make lots of new friends here...and take the time to give well thought out answers. Those answers are the ones people appreciate and vote higher on. Welcome aboard.
Superpower! As soon as you level up in any single topic you can buy superpowers. These superpowers can be bought at the bottom of you "my askville" page and can be used in any topic that you have reached the same level as the level of that topic.
Leveling up farther can buy you more powerful superpowers. Aside from that, we are accumulating coins for no purpose other than bragging rights and whatever questville is going to be.
Right now, you can buy superpowers if you have enough. Dear aj0905, Superpowers normally increase your coin earning power in one way or another. For example, you can earn double coins for your answers.
If you go to Askvilles FAQs it chats a bit about it. But it let's you know that they're not really good for anything outside of these superpowers yet, then intimates that they will be, although it's not decided. I asked this question a couple days ago, so this is kind of an amalgamation of mine and there answers.
