My daughter had to get one in order to control her very much out-of-control pekinese. She NEVER uses the shock but only the beeper. This pekinese dog came already with a major attitude (she loves me because I am her grandma) and would absolutely become aggressive if anyone got near her food, her toys or would stop her from chewing a piece of furniture.

She would snap and attack. The beeper gets her out of her anger. Funny thing is that now if she is misbehaving you can aim at her your cell phone or the TV remote that she behaves like it will be the beeper.

She does not know the difference.

Thank you Violet1...beeper sounds better than the shock method anyday. I have phoned a professional trainer in at this point...wish me luck. Ajolie 16 months ago .

I have two dogs and I think it is cruel to shock a dog or anything else. I look at like this, would you want one around your neck? Would you put one on your child's neck?

If you answered yes to the two questions then use it. I do not understand how any one can hurt a animal.

Thank you Delvet...that is I have always felt. What is your solution to your babies when they are barking out of control...and you have done everything to make them comfortable. My landlord say's I will have to give them away if they do not stop and that is not an option nor is moving at this point...I need more pointers please.

I never had that problem. I have a Shiatsu and a Lab, we keep them separated because of there size. They were both bought from a breeder when they were 6 wks.Old.

The Lab never barks unless when he thinks he is protecting. The Shiatsu when it is also protecting and when my wife is eating. They are our babies especially the Shiatsu.

I really do not know what to tell you. Have you looked in the phone book for a trainer and see what they have to say. Please feel free to e mail me at anytime.

I don't believe in crates either. We have gates around the house to keep them were we want them to be and not to get into trouble.

Ahhh yes...the Shiatsu and the Lab are sweet tempered dogs. I think the gates are a great idea. I found some made by a company called Richell, so I will get a few of those to set boundries.

I grew up with Military trained shepherds...however military training is much more intense than dog training in civilian training. I purchased my babies at 6wks. Old also.

They are brother and sister 3 and 4lb. Chihuahua's usually they are very sweet cause I give them alot of love. Just lately barking alot.

Tonight I contacted a trainer and she is going to come over and help me. Thank you so very much for your time. Ajolie 16 months ago .

With the gates the Lab has the run of the house till 3PM. Then his Gate go's up and the Shiatsu has the run till 8AM. The Lab is really my Stepson's although he doesn't really take care of him, we do.

The Shiatsu is our loving baby. As my wife says he is just special. She said that is because at our age we will probably never have any more dogs.

You would not believe the toy's he has. He is so spoiled that when my wife go's to the store he is sitting there waiting for a new toy. He love them, and plays with them for hours.

If there is anything I can help you with please feel free to e mail me.

That's a good division of time for your babies and a another great idea for mine...cause the male dog ia a little bigger than the female and he now thinks she is a toy of his...she is very docile, while he is just all over the place. But really cute. I know about all about the toys...whenever I go out to the store I like your wife, purchase a little something new for them.

Thank you so much for sharing with me. And I will share something my Mother has alway's said to me "How old would you be if you didn't know how old you were? " Tell your wife your really twenty again.

The ONLY reason to use a shock collar on a dog is 1. When the dog is putting his/her own life in danger, AND2. When nothing else has workedThere are bark collars which send up a citrus spray near the dog's nose when the dog barks.

This is much more humane. But small dogs tend to bark. That's part of their nature.

And two dogs can set each other off, that's for sure. If you are at work when the dogs are barking, then the citrus collar might be the best bet. But if you are at home, you can train them to be quiet.

First of all, never use the word 'no. ' The simple reason for this is because that sound is part of so many of our words in everyday language that it can be quite confusing for a dog. Second, do not tell them "shhh" or "quiet" or "uh-uh" or whatever command you choose in a loud voice or a sharp tone.

That will sound to them like you are joining them in the barking! There is a way to get them to stop barking on command, and this may sound funny, but first you have to get them to bark on command. "Speak!" "Speak!

" in excited tones until the dog barks. Then, quietly, "shhhhhh" and as the dog stops, to see what you are doing, reward him/her with a small treat and a quiet, "Good shhhhh!" Do it again and again until the 'shhhh' command means stip barking.

Then you will only have to reward once in awhile, but do remember to reward once in awhile to keep the lesson strong. Hope that helps. I've been working with dogs for many years and done some professional training.

..Thank you for your excellent advice. They are not difficult dogs really...they are very smart. I think they are just testing what is acceptable and what is not.

If all else fails I will try citrus collar. I am working now with a trainer and he says they are doing great on command..they want to please us. Do you know where to pick up the citrus collars just so I will have them when we are not home?

Thanks again. Ajolie 16 months ago .

Amazon has one here: amazon.com/Premier-Citronella-No-Bark-Co... reviews are from two people for whom it didn't work. It has worked for us. Every dog is different....You might also consider a high frequency sound collar:amazon.com/Small-No-Bark-Collar-Red/dp/B... think the problem a lot of people have with these helps is that they expect the collars to do all the work for them.

That's not how it works. The dogs need person-to-dog training as well. I'm glad you will be working with a trainer.

A good trainer will be able to give you some very good advice and helps within one or two sessions so you shouldn't have to spend half your salary on one. Com/Premier-Citronella-No-Bark-Collar/dp/B002GQ9QLU/ref=sr_1_2? Ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1282743212&sr=8-2.

Thank you so very much for your guidance in this area...means alot to me. : ajolie 16 months ago .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
