US Medical system is owned by the pharmaceutical companies. The only way for Universal Healthcare to become a reality in the US is for the politicians to figure out how to make the populace pay thru the nose for it, because it is the pharmaceutical companies (and their politicians) who are making billions a year on people's suffering. Alternatives exist for many diseases, including cancer, but since the pharma companies have such a stranglehold on the medical system, the AMA, the FDA, and the legal system, these are rarely even given any thought, and have even been made illegal in many cases.
Perish the thought that a non-drug based treatment would work! In most cases, our MDs cannot even discuss such things, because that would be contrary to the insurance companies policies, and even contrary to the state medical boards. Eisenhower warned against the industrial-military complex; We have another such complex in the medical-pharma-insurance-legal system.
Disease is very, very big business. Medical care in several countries is now considerably better and lower cost than it is in the US. There are problems with any form of governmental-run healthcare system, but surely a system can be designed that actually functions.
Even Cuba has free healthcare for its people: want the people to work? Keep them well. A nation which can spend over a trillion dollars on a war, but does not provide health care for its populace, and even skimps on health care where possible on its disabled military veterans, seriously has its priorities twisted..

Most probable choice is the current insurance experts. What type of change would you expect if the same crew is running the "new show". It would quickly turn into "same old, same old".
Just my two cents worth! .
I think it sounds good, but all that glitters is not gold. I believe why America is great is because of competition. If you take that away, even in health care, you start getting worse treatment.
I’ve heard that in other countries with Universal Health Care, you have to wait sometimes months. Even in an emergency! We are so fortunate to be able to choose whom we go to.
If you don’t like a Doctor,etc...,Can you do that with UHC? Or will you be assigned someone who is competent? What if they are incompetent?
When we give up our rights so easy, what does that say about America today? .
It's been an issue for many years now in the US. Bill Clinton was a big proponent of universal healthcare back when he was in the White House but, like any good initiative brought forward by one political party, the other one always gets in its' way. Not until there is overwhelming bipartisan support (i.e.
When hell freezes over) will it ever exist in the US.
Like the idea of it. I like the idea of universal health insurance. It is sad that there are so many people that remain uninsured.
I think it hasn't been implemented in the US because our population is so large. Sources: My opinion .
