I'm too old to be seen without my clothes in public, but it looks like fun, if you can avoid sunburn and bugs. I spent my summers on a farm in the Midwest as a child. There was a creek that was just wide and deep enough to get yourself wet in and cool off.
I was real surprised when I learned that the local kids would just go down there with a towel, undress and cool off. Being a city kid, I found it a bit out of the ordinary. But, no one giggled too long or loud the first time that I did it, so I got used to it.
As the summer progressed, lots of adults used to come down there as well, since the creek was a lot cooler than the air. So, I have no hangups about doing it or others doing it. My wife and I have a backyard pool with a high fence, so we skinny dip all the time in the summer--which in Houston is May 1st to sometime in October.
If we didn't have a pool, and if there was a place to skinny dip nearby, we'd be tempted. I don't know if this makes us nudists or not, but it isn't a big issue for me one way or another. A little odd, but whatever floats your boat I've hung out on nude beaches. It's fun, on occasion, when the weather is good. I find it just a little odd as something to do all day every day.
The guy doing naked rock-climbing certainly seemed to be taking a few more risks than most rock-climbers. Clothes are certainly convenient as a place to stick your cell phone, and it's a lot easier to regulate temperature by loosening your clothes if you have clothes on in the first place. But they seem harmless, and if it makes them feel more in touch with the world and their bodies, then good for them.
Ok, so I have an opinion on this and here it is...in the buff (giggle) I am so ok with people who want to live this lifestyle. I am neither offended or bothered by it all all. What I am bothered by is the attitude about it.
I don't know the exact percentage but I would be comfortable guessing 95% of nudists weren't living the lifestyle from birth to now. They of course were born that way and then lived a clothed life until, as an adult, decided to transition to the naturalist lifestyle. So, since they lived many years clothed they know how to do it and are capable of figuring the clothes part out just fine.
I know, I know, where am I going with this? I am getting there... What really bothers me is the attitude that has been portrayed that they can't bear to wear clothes, don't have fashion sense and are pained that the majority of the world wears clothes and how much better they are than anyone else. I have tattoos and piercings however, I remember what it was like to not and I know there are places and times that I am not inclined to over drama up my piercings and maybe even take them out, as well as wear clothes that cover my tattoos or at least don't emphasize them.
Just because I am totally open about it doesn't mean I am not capable of understanding that all people aren't and there is a time and place for everything. I was watching Miami Inked the other day and a nudist woman got tattooed. First of all, she was dressed totally inappropriately to be walking around in society and then she had to get tattoooed in the nude.
She spent the entire time covering her private parts. WHY BOTHER THEN? Wear clothes when it is appropriate an in your private life be nude all the time.
I feel this way about almost everything, not just this lifestyle, I don't care of your straight, gay, nudist, into s & m or whatever, blah, blah.... what you do in your personal life is your own thing, go for it. What you do in public should be appropriate to suite the environment you are in. Ok, so, do ya think I have a strong opinion?
