What happened to the SUGGEST TOPIC option on questions here on Askville?

Ok, I see there are a lot of changes here on Askville. I just noticed when I went to suggest a topic for a post that had 2 topics on it and was missing several important ones, that there was no way to do that now. What happened?

Seems askville is going more commercial and less user friendly. Esp when the spam is up and the off topic posts seem to never get moved or deleted, and that now you cant even add the proper topics to it, there will be just that much more spam. Why?

This and the hidden user id is a joke. Come on Askville. I really like it here, but you are getting away from being a great resource for a lot of people!

Please bring back the topic suggestion area and please start taking more action on off topic and repeated posts! It may still return to normal only after... They did this to prevent abuse of the system, many were suggesting topics that did not belong to the question! The anonymous votes is to prevent abuse, this way there are no gold diggers in play and favorites among members! The compliments were disabled so people can't see who answered.

I see though they brought that function back in the answers, I believe I saw it there a little while ago! There are ways around all of this and one can still see who answered or have someone tell them who it is! I agree with you on ANON it really takes away from interaction, communications and fun.

It really belongs turned on for Appeals only, this would not bother me what so ever. We will see more communication from the Mayor hopefully, that is after the 17 return and life settles down again. Maybe the Mayor and his henchmen learned a lesson, they must do their jobs right or the community will take matters into it's own hands!

This hopefull forces the Askville Team to finally do their jobs right. Sources: PC 123 .

The following links will go along way toward explaining... that's going on--and, in fact, are important for you to read. "Open Forum: What would you like to see as part of Askville's Community Guidelines? " Community Guideline Improvements As you may or may not know, within a certain segment of the Askville population, there have been some fairly serious issues.

These issues are mostly related to community behavior. There has been harrassing and abusive behavior between members, points gaming in several different ways, problems, compaints and issues related to appeals and bonus questions that included askville members clearly stating that they were going to, had, or would down-vote or 3-star any BQ appeal they got (which is voting abuse)... I think I've hit the high points here. One particular Askville Team member, Chumpboy (AKA Christian) has taken over as comunity leader.

He posted that "Open FOrum" question, and many people responded. One of the suggestions--and it's there to prevent people's acquaintance with members from voting by name, now by content--was to make the people who answer the questions anonymous until after the voting is final. They are also anonymous on appeal.

This prevents us from voting someone we don't like low, or voting our friends high. They're working on making compliments from the temporarily hidden links possible, so that folks can still send a comment from a good answer. ANother problem the anonymous feature is going to help is with collusion between friends, or with people running multiple accounts.

We had an issue a month or so ago--1 person, 3 identities. One identify would ask a question, the other two would give minimal answers--the minimals answers always got 5 star votes, everyone else down-voted--and the three identities people got ahead. EmpressCandyBaby was one of that trio--they have since been identified and booted off.

"Trolling" behavior, voting abuse and multiple identity abuse were singled out as behaviors to crack down on, and 17 people were suspended for a week. Several other people, in sympathy, have changed their avatars to match. One of the identified "abusive behaviors" was the abilty to add additional topics to questions.

People would draft the question, others would come behind and add nastily suggestive topics. Other problem behaviors were related to bonus questions--several people were hitting off answers to them as fast as possible--which is legit, but cloggs up the questions pages fast. This caused a lot of angst and some abusive and harrassing behavior.

The blog link has a lot of information about what's going on and why. Post your suggestions on the Open FOrum DB-it's still active, and Christian is reading and acting on it. He wants to hear from us what we like and dislike about the site and the changes.

There's to be a similar open forum about the Bonus Question issues--and in fact, the blog talks about that, too, and what's up with the whole thing. Sources: I've been here on Askville a year, next week! I keep my eyes open.

I know it sucks that its gone I guess some jerks were abusing it. I know one jerk on askville got mad at me because I made a suggestion of topics that the question fit under and she acted like she OWNED the question and everthing about it. I hope Askville brings it back.

It was a very helpful thing. I am sure they could make it work so that there were limits or that maybe if a person was abusign it then suspend that feature for that member or something like that. I think the hidden ID is good for Appeals, but its really a pain qhen you answer a question.

Sometimes I read an answer I really like and want to send a message to the person or maybe be friends n stuff, but now you cant do that! Totally stupid! It reminds me sometimes of my sons afterschool programs and the way that people act and are treated!

That feature has probably accounted for more abuse than just about anything else. Add to that the fact that people have been absolutely *begging* the powers that be to get rid of it? Wow, the Askville team really can't win, can they?

Either they're ignoring people's feedback or they're not user-friendly. I don't think you should blame Askville here. Instead, blame any of the many, many people who couldn't seem to restrain themselves from adding malicious "topics" to people's questions.

I'm surprised Askville didn't nix that one a long time ago, to be honest with you.

2 I agree, topic edition feature has been abused a LOT. The point is that those who are less involved in the community don't know this.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
