Most professional writers find their own niche and specialize in one certain area. Some focus on fashion, cooking, history etc. Some even take up several topics. Become an expert in one and people will beat a path to your door.
It all depends on where you want to take it, how much time you want to eventually put into it, and what other skills you do or do not want to have to learn along the way. A blog is a good next step if you want to keep it kind of on the hobby level, unless you have a good monetization strategy and want to learn quite a bit or marketing.
If you really want to develop it into a career, there are two logical options at this point. One, go the freelancing route -- hit the freelance marketplaces (my favorite is Elance, but Guru and oDesk are pretty good too) and start working job-to-job. Not a bad way to go, that's where I've been full-time for five years, but am now trying to work into the second logical option.
That second option is information products (I'm currently working on an eBook for an introductory, and a full training program after that). This takes a lot more background education, but it also has much better earnings potential. The person who has been teaching me some of the additional skills I need has made $100 million on information products now -- while those results probably aren't typical, I know hundreds of people who are making a tidy living with it.It basically just starts with having some knowledge, and finding out who wants it.
Good question...if you have any ideas, please let me know. I sm a fledgling writer, but believe I do have talent, and a voice that people would like to hear.
I believe one logical progression would be to create a blog if they have not already done so. A hubber may also consider writing freelance for one of the pay services. I would caution that there is a tremendous difference between Hub Pages and freelance writing.
With Hub Pages there is always a potential for passive income. Freelance writing pays upfront and then nothing else.
Just keep plugging away and some of the right people might take notice somewhere down the road and you could be a famous writer.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
