When I worked at CIA and later in science and medical libraries that was my work. So I enjoy it and try to work the best answer in the least sum of words.
For many of us, it IS a hobby. Some of us like racking up points on a scoreboard, and some of us just like handing out free advice.
Well, that's a good question. I'm wondering why I'm answering questions myself. I think I'm intellectually bored at work, and with the recession, business is off, so instead of staring off into space waiting for the phone to ring or projects to come in, I'm answering questions and chatting with people on Askville.
I also have a great deal of trivia in my head and it seems that sharing some of it might be of benefit to some people.
Satisfaction. I enjoy answering questions and, when I have the time, I do it here and on another site. It's nice to help someone with some information or advice.
You get helpfulness points for answering, which is just a measure of other people's appreciation for your answer. Twice in Askville's almost 4 year history there has been financial compensation, in the form of gift certificates, but they were always a surprise. Most people are doing this for fun.
Most of the questions I've asked here have had interesting answers, some have helped a lot and there's always something new we can learn. So I like to return the 'aha' feeling by answering what I can for others and maybe help someone out too.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
