Chi58, for me, the Tom Tom One is the best deal... he is why... I got the Tom Tom ONE for Christmas, and use it several times a week. It's inexpensive compared to others, and the best thing it's portable from one car to the other. I like the fact that I just need to input an address, press calculate and it stored the location and starts telling me which way to go.

We have found places I could have NEVER gotten to via directions, and in a pinch, it has an Alternate directions button that helps when there is a traffic jam. The best thing for me is it Tells me where to go, when to turn, and does so in a choice of several voices and languages. This way, I don't have to keep looking at it, and can concentrate on the road.

Very safe, and it has a night mode which has just the right brightness so it's not too harsh on my eyes. You can get the Tom Tom ONE (pictured below) for under $260 if you shop around. I added a link to their web site, because they have a good price now, and it includes free accessories and free shipping.

Others usually sell for much more, and don't have the ability to be upgraded online like this one. So, for me, I could have the Chrysler dealer put a $2,400 navagation system in my 300C, and or spend $260 and use the difference to get some nice wheels! Also check out , they have some good prices on this product as well.

I can not tell you the best, but I know about my Lowrance 500C. I have a Lowrance 500C. It is 2 years old and has been replaced by a newer model with similar physical characteristics.

They both have a large screen and a 20 gig internal hard-drive that does not require a SD card or regional map additions. I have had problems with the touch screen calibration and losing the base map north of Iowa. Customer service is always the same, delayed response to e-mail, give the unit a ’hard reset’ and reload the latest software/firmware revision.

Other than these aggravations I have not found a system that I like better. I’m not impressed with my wife’s TomTom .
