The best bokeh's are normally produced with very fast lenses which are fixed focal length lenses. It all depends on how much you can spend and what is the limit that you can go for. I can advise you if you let me know this, also I need to know which camera you currently are using.
I have the 3100 and I am trying to decide between the 50mm and the 85mm. Danileigh3 9 days ago .
Now you need to make up your mind as to which one will suit you more. Generally a portrait lens should ideally be 80mm and above (based on full format without taking into consideration the crop factor). If I were you I'd pick the 85 MM and be happy with it.
The decision however rests on you and your style of picture taking.
You can use the 50 mm for portraits but you need to back off a bit instead of going closer as the perceptive. With an effective 75 mm lens will not give you very pleasing results as far as the face is concerned. As long as its not a too tight shot it would be OK .
I am just starting, and would like to get into photography. Danileigh3 9 days ago .
I am very impressed with your knowledge on this very subject especially now that I know you are just starting. Not many newcomers to photography have the knowledge about bokeh's. I once tested a 50 mm F1.8 and F1.4 for bokeh and I am sure I may have those pictures in my archives but need to check that.
If I find it will post it here. I was not very impressed with the results, however the 85 mm lens especially the F1.4 is great for bokeh. The price difference is of course 10 times. So the answer to your question would be, the 85 mm lens is better for both a good bokeh as well as good portrait.
Thank you very much! I appreciate your input. Danileigh3 9 days ago .
You are very welcome, feel free to ask anything, I would be more than happy to help ya! .
The best Nikon is the DX3, but along the same line you most likely won't put a $200 lens on it either. Not to say that the $200 lens will not do a good job but a $6000 lens will be better. Knowledge and technique and the 12 inches behind the view finder are more important than the camera and lens.
The best nikon lens for a beginner with the best bokeh but ideal for portraiture is (without quotes):.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
