What is the best vacuum cleaner for hardwood floors?

Yes, they are a little pricey for a "broom" style vacuum but they are extremely powerful and very durable. The brand comes from Germany and the Germans know something about building durable machanical goods.

I first tried a Hoover broom that cost about $70 and it broke within two months. I was able to get a replacement under warranty and I promptly dumped it on Craigslist, unopened. This Miele doesn't have a rotating brush which you won't need for hardwood floors.

PLEASE visit emerusa.com" rel="nofollow">emerusa.com and look at their canister vacs! I have a galileo (which I think is now discontinued) but I'm certain their other models such as the Boticelli or Ferrari would be just as great. Our entire 5000 sf home is hard wood and we have a border collie.

I can't say enough about this vac and the strength of suction....brings the hair TO the head (amazing). I use the motorized carpet attachment for my rugs and it has amazing suction as well. We also use it on our car!

I paid around $350 but it was totally worth it! I have tried so many "common" brands and been disappointed every time. Check out the demo video and you will be convinced!

Emer stick brooms made in Italy are the best com.

I would also recommend a Miele, but would recommend something from their S-series canisters. The power on them is terrific - they will definitely get that dust out. Also, if you only need the vacuum for hardwood floors then you won't need to get their highest end model (the Capricorn).
