What is the best way to clean hardwood floors?

We have just refinished and added to the hardwoods in my house. On the old floors, I found most cleaners left a residue or haze. I have been advised to only mop hot water (no cleaner added) by one source, but I have two young children who are constantly on these floors and I'm not thrilled with the idea of nothing to sanitize the floors.

I do have a steam cleaner for hard floor surfaces, but will the heat hurt these floors? I used it on the old ones, but they were old. Any fabulous ideas?

Oh, these are urethaned, not wax. Asked by Mamasunotheremuch 56 months ago Similar questions: clean hardwood floors Home > Home Improvement.

White vinegar & warm water If you are talking about real wood floor (or engineered wood veneer) mopping with white vinegar and warm water works great. About 4 years ago we remodeled our house and had the wood floors sanded and refinished - they were red & white oak. The guy who did the work had 30+ years in the profession and gave us this recommendation - it works great. It will not degrade the clear polyurethane finish, will not leave a residue and is kid / pet safe.

(The vinegar smell is short lived! )The mixture we use is one cup of white vinegar to one gallon of water..

If you don't mind the smell... I was at my friends' house just as her professional cleaning crew was finishing up (lucky lady). They put full strength vinegar on a 'mop' similar to my Swiffer with disposable pad, and mopped their way out the door. I thought that the house would have smelled like a 'tossed salad'...but, surprizingly, it didn't.

Her hardwood floors looked fantastic, with no clouding or smears....just shine. It certainly should be safe to use around children and pets. Sweep up the stuff and then a wet rag When we bought our new house I asked the builder and the wood floor guy (seperately) and they both told me a soft wet rag! Our son is 3 1/2 so we have crumbs everywhere. I use a Dirt Devil Broom Vac first to get all of the crumbs up.It's really nice - it's light weight, easy to use and rechargeable.

Once I do that I get on my hands and knees with a wet rag and clean away. I find that I use the Broom Vac often while I use the wet rag at least once or twice a month for a good cleaning. I don't think you should steam the floors because the water vapor could cause the wood to distort. I read up that you can use a solution of rubbing alcohol and water to clean and disinfect the floors. Be very careful with using a lot of liquid on hardwood floors, make sure you don't put on too much or it can mess up the floor permanently (trust me I know from experience, after spilling a cooler on my hardwood floor).

And also, don't use vinegar as the other poster has said. In the long term this will damage your floors- It is okay for one time I guess but it definitely wears your hardwood floor fast because vinegar is so acidic. Com/best-way-to-clean-hardwood-floors.

Pre-Finished Hardwood Floors vs. Unfinished Hardwood Floors.

I'm taking up some very old carpeting and there are hardwood floors underneath. Great, except.

What can I do or use to keep my cat from pooping on our hardwood floors.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
