In fish keeping bigger is always better. With a 10 gallon tank you are really limited to just a few fish- A group of 6+ tetras OR one male betta with some shrimp and or snail OR a few platies. - not many options for a 10 gallon.
A 20 gallon tank. 6+ danios with 6+ cory cats Or 12+ tetras with 6+ cory cats Or a group of guppies. Lots of options for a 20 gallon tank.
General rule of thumb is 1 inch of fish per gallon of water( take into account fish growth)go with mostly tetras( leave zebras out -they can be pickers) and you should be fine.20 gallon will give you more choices.
