Don't say "yuck" LOL My favorite recipe on the holidays is Creamed Cabbage.....I know, cabbage gets a bad rap, and I am not a fan of either sauerkraut or coleslaw, but this is completely different...sometimes I don't tell people what it is because they won't try it, I just put it on the buffet, but I never have leftovers! Shred 1 head of cabbage as you would for coleslaw, place in large non-metalic bowl, add about 1/2 water and some salt and microwave for 5 minutes, tightly cover in plastic wrap. Make a basic white sauce (3 T butter melted, sprinkle in 3 T flour, whisk together and cook on medium for several minutes--you want to cook, but not brown the flour), whisk in aout 1/2 cup chicken stock slowly and then add 1 and a half to 2 cups milk (I use whole milk) -- when my sister makes this she uses just the milk and adds 1 bouillon cube -- heating slowly and whisking frequently so no lumps.
Now what you have is basically a white gravy. I now add I jar of sliced pimentos, and ground black pepper. Place very well drained cabbage in a buttered baking dish, slowly add the cream sauce till it just reaches the top of the cabbage, top with crushed, buttered ritz type cracker crumbs and bake till bubbly and golden.
I usually do this and my other casseroles (broccoli, mashed potatoes, and stuffing) the day before and keep them cool without the topping, I add that just before I put them in the oven after I take the turkey out and it is "resting" as I make the gravy. Makes for a pretty tidy kitchen on Thanksgiving. Have a blessed holiday everyone!.
Easy, delicious and only 999,999 calories per serving.... This is my great-grandmother's recipe for Sweet Potato Pudding: 1 ½ C. Grated sweet potatoes 1 ½ C. Sugar 3 T.
Butter ½ t. Cloves 1 ½ C. Sweet milk 2 eggs 1 t.
Nutmeg ½ t. Allspice Combine all ingredients in large mixing bowl and mix well (by hand). Bake in greased deep casserole dish one hour @ 350 degrees, stirring occasionally while baking.
Serve warm in individual dessert bowls, topped with whipped cream. That's all there is to it. Super-easy to make, and it is sinfully rich and yummy.
You can refrigerate any leftovers, and re-heat in the oven or microwave.
Nothing says Thanksgiving like stuffing. Melt ½ cup of butter in a skillet and sauté 1 cup of onions and one cup of celery. Add 1tsp.
Salt, ½ tsp. Black pepper, 2 tsp. Ground sage and 1 tbsp poultry seasoning.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In a very large bowl combine 5 cups soft breadcrumbs and 5 cups of crumbled cornbread. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In a smaller bowl blend 2 cans of cream of chicken soup, s soup cans of chicken broth or stock, 3 eggs beaten and 1 tsp. Of vinegar.
Add celery and onion mixture to bread crumbs and toss lightly, then add liquid mixture and mix thoroughly. Turn into a greased 9x13-baking dish and bake at 350 for one hour. Sources: my files .
This is my favorite "not fairly typical" Thanksgiving recipe... This is the only Thanksgiving recipe I commonly make that I feel is unusual. It's delicious, and I vastly prefer it to the marshmallow sweet potatos or the candied yams. As far as I'm concerned, sweet potatoes and yams are already sweet enough!
DOn't be indimidated by the "souffle"--this isn't difficult to make, and it's well worth eating. Sweet Potato Soufflé Peel and slice into thick slices 4 to 5 good sized sweet potatoes Cover with water, and bring to a boil, boil until fork-tender--keeping plenty of water over the potatoes. Drain and rinse.
Mix as for mashed potatoes with 1 stick butter 1/4 cup sugar--add more to taste if potatoes are not very sweet 1 tsp. Vanilla 1-3 TB milk) Ginger and nutmeg to taste. Beat until smooth.
If stringy, strain through a colander or spin in a blender until smooth. Let cool to room temperature. Add 4 egg yolks Chopped pecans to taste Right before you're ready to put it into the oven, beat egg whites until they form stiff peaks.
Fold them in gently. Handle them gently or the soufflé will fall. Grease soufflé pan.
Spoon in mixture and bake at 375 on the middle rack of the oven, for 30-45 minutes. Sources: Straight out of my recipe files. My favorites don't really have set recipes. I guess my favorite is the cranberry sauce. I love to make the cranberry sauce. It’s so yummy and saucy.
These usually a bit of improv, but this is the basic recipe: When I make it, I put a bag of cranberries into a pot and add a half and half mix of water and orange juice until it just covers the cranberries. Add half a cup of brown sugar (more or less to taste, I generally end up using about 3/4 cup but I like to start out at half in case the OJ is particularly sweet). Add 1.5 teaspoons of cinnamon.
Boil until all the berries have popped. Then simmer until thickened. Pour it into a bowl and shave a small amount of chocolate from a high quality chocolate bar on top.
When you serve it, break the chocolate up and mix into the sauce. Serve. Yummy, yummy.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
