Trey Anastasio has played the following guitars in this order, and still plays those with asterisks: Pearl-white solid-body Ibanez Time Guitars Europe acoustic Original blonde (1987) * Padauk blonde (1990) Koa hollowbody (1996) * Wentzell acoustic * Trey uses a midi-switchable rig with multiple loop paths. Trey uses Schaller pickups. Trey uses two Ibanez Tube Screamers, the classic TS-9 model.
He has used a Bradshaw 3-channel preamp with old RCA tubes. There is much more information available, as well as conflicting reports of what rigs Trey Anastasio uses at the link.
I realize this question is old, but I thought you should know that both of the answers above mine are not entirely correct. Phish's long-time sound manager (Paul Languedoc) has built every guitar that Trey Anastasio has played. They have always been hollow-bodied (not solid-bodied Ibanez as the first answer says) and have typically had that shape that is in the picture of the 2nd answer (that really is one of the guitars).
So the guitars are not a store-bought brand, they are all Languedoc guitars. He has slowly started selling hand-made guitars that are almost exactly like the ones he built for Trey, and he says that they have a base price of $10,000 and there is quite a waiting list, I think. To get the typical Phish sound, though, you can relatively successfully recreate it without too much effort.
The two most important parts that influence Trey's sound is the fact that the guitar is hollow-bodied and the Compressor he uses. S sound is much more complex than just that, but you'd be surprised at how close you can come with those two things. If you don't want to go out and buy effects pedals and such (pretty expensive), a pretty good amateur solution is to get some sort of recording software for your computer (i.e.
Guitar Rig 4). A lot of those applications that you'll find, you'll be able to find people who have already figured out how to get relatively close to Trey's sound. Hollow-bodied guitars running through a compressor with mucho overdrive.
I'd imagine it would be found in the on this site: strangedesign.org/rigs/ (amp/rig also listed).
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
