Things you need, and some you want Good question, no specific answer. In the past when lives were more predictably laid out and couples never lived together before marriage, or even lived on their own for extended periods of time, the normal household wares and appliances suggestions worked fairly universally. You and the other half need to sit down and figure out what you really need (or want, if Ed's recent question is anything to go by.) For example, if your toaster oven is toast, and the other's idea of toasting bread is holding it over an open flame, toaster oven might be a good start.

If you've just shelled out for that brand new 4-slice Onyx and Black KitchenAid toaster then, well, probably not. If you're a microwave dinner and outdoor barbecue type of couple, why ask for that fancy china that you'll never use? But really, ask for things you think you will really use, otherwise you're just creating clutter in your house - Scott Adams writes about why clutter is a Bad Thing.

Perhaps the only entirely serious piece of advice I have is that you should try to accommodate a range of budgets - don't have all the gifts costing over $200. I'd say $30-50 is a good low range. And choose more gifts than you invite guests - you won't get everything you want, but at least those last minute folk won't be stuck with only one option to choose from.

Don't be afraid to get creative. Take a look at some of the suggestions in the comments on Adams' blog: Booze Registry Education Registry Give Other People Your Gifts Registry And if you can do it tactfully, intimate that gift cards or cash are accepted gifts.Be aware though, that no matter how specific the registry, you will end up with things you neither need nor want.! ;) Sources: getting married next year, have to start haggling with the Mrs. over our registry soon .

Registries If you're in a similar situation to what my husband and I were, then you've already got two of everything. Chances are, however, that there are things you have none of or not enough of. If you like to cook, put the harder to get (or afford) things like powerful gadgets and nice cookware.

Any housewares you think you'd need, or affordable furnature (like chairs, coffee tables) can go on there, too. Always leave the option of gift cards or cash open, as well. No matter how complete you think you make your registry, however, be prepared for people who won't pay attention to it!

There's bound to be someone who feels a personalized gift is more important, or there's those who will ignore it completely and get you something completely not suited to your tastes. A registry exists to give your guests an easy way to get you what you want, but it also helps them see what you would like in case they find something in the same vein of your interests.

Hmmm... that depends a lot on your lifestyle, hobbies, likes and dislikes. Do you both work long hours and eat out a lot, or will you be cooking meals at home and eating together? Do you like to organize and host parties, or do you prefer spending time alone?

Do you like relaxing in front of the TV or with a good book, or outside? Try to include things that you will use doing what you most enjoy doing together. Registry I have found that people like to put a lot of kitchen, bathroom and bedroom items and SOME high end pieces. Various items of different $$ helps people to choose what they can afford and you get what you really need/want. For example, everyday dish sets, drinking glasses, tumblers, flat ware, mixing bowls, baking pans, cook ware and utensils, can opener, measuring items.

Towels, shower curtain, decorative items. Sheets, comforters, decorative items. You can also have lamps, clocks, serving trays of silver or "crystal", fine dining ware, flatware, napkins, tablecloth, table runners.

Curtains, area rugs. You may want to do two registries if you would like different items from different stores. Some people will purchase off registry because they want to give you something special or a favorite, CASH!.

Appliances, sheets, linens, cookware, etc Anything you can think of that you might need for the house, and preferably pick a store where you can exchange items without a receipt (just on the off chance someone buys something you hate) Sources: my opinion .

We are having a destination wedding and two receptions.

No time to get anything personlized or sent from the Registry...

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
