What topics have the most activity in Askville? The most questions asked, the most answers given, the most points, etc?

The most questions asked, the most answers given, the most points, etc. It seems that the Askville community has a lot of expertise in some areas, I'm curious which areas are particularly active. I've seen the topics map, but I'm not sure if that represents recent activity or overall activity. Activity in Topics I think the most active topics are the most general, the ones that the most people can relate to--Askville and Food! Right after that are more "general" ones: health, books, cooking, electronics, computers, and entertainment. I got this by looking at the top point-getters topics.

Everyone eats, and many want to know about Askville, so there are alot of questions about those topics and consequently alot of points available. It's harder to level up in the more "obscure" categories, things that are more specific, unless it's something that has a lot of followers that come here to discuss it. Like painting, for instance, which would be my "thing"--there aren't alot of people into it here to ask questions about it, so it's very difficult to find answers to answer to make any points. As time goes on and this place becomes even more populated, I'm sure the traffic will increase and we will have a broader scope of popular topics.

The topics map pretty much represents recent activity.

The big ones in 'Topics with answers' The second topic map, the one that says "Topics With Answers" would be a fair indicator of overall activity, particularly which topics have the most questions asked and answered. The 'Topics Needing Answers' map would be current/recent activity. I say this because the 'With Answers' list is presumably based on all the questions that have been asked on Askville since its inception, and can therefore be considered a historical measure.

One measure I consider when trying to determine which topics have the most points awarded is to look at the leaderboard - when you've got several people with 400+ points, it's a fair indication that lots of questions are being asked in these categories. There are discrepancies though, for example in the shopping category the second placed person doesn't have significantly more points than the tenth placed person in the food category. I'd explain this in two ways: The questions are more diverse, and therefore the points are more spread out among users, rather than being concentrated among a very few.'Shopping' is, after all, a very broad topic.

These topics get added to the questions after the fact, so points aren't awarded. I'd say that the 'askville' topic also generates a lot of interest, especially recently, which is apparent when you see four people with 600+ points and three others with 400+. I also think there is a smaller core group of people (the askville junkies) who answer in this topic though, so that also contributes to the high concentrations.

And although it doesn't really show up on the maps too much, there are oodles and oodles of questions about Amazon - for obvious reasons. The Amazon topic probably isn't large on the maps because most of these questions are asked by new users who don't label their questions properly in the first place. Incidentally, a similar question was asked about a month ago, you might be interested in the answers given there too.

You can determine this by the "cloud" The home page has all of the topics listed for questions that need answers. The size and color of the topics in that cloud indicate the amount of questions, thus the amount of activity. The Askville blog gives an explanation of how this works,so I’ll offer a link rather than pasting the entire thing.

askville-blog.amazon.com/ I can tell you that books is usually the most heavily trafficked topic along with electronics. Others seem to include Askville and parenting as well. Take a look here after reading the blog.

’ Just from my experience, the questions that get 5 answers quickly are the ones where the asker really needs help with something... Relationships, babies, children, quirky pets, food, dieting, health. Books and computer tech problems come up a lot, but that's not something I'm into. Hope that helps.

Just from what I have seen.. I would say some of the most popular topics are: 1. American Idol 2. Child care 3.

Pets 4. IT related areas 5. Health / Nutirtion / Food .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
