First admitting you have an addiction to alcohol and are willing to surrender to it. If you can not do it yourself like many people that can't, ask for help from family and Rehab Centers.
Read my hubs and there is good advice from my experiences.
The alcoholic must want to be sober and not forced into sobriety. The have to want to help themself before anything or anyone can help them.
Find a new hobby. Something that you can enjoy sober that's relatively productive. For me, sobriety isn't painful or unpleasant, it's just very irritating.
If it is hurting your life in any way, quit. Don't fall for the tales of how difficult it is or how controlling it is. If you really want to quit , you can and will.
I would have to say the first step is the desire to stop. If you don't want to quit, no amount of pushing or suggesting is going to change that.
It happens ... to those who say, we Follow The Lord ... Because, The Lord, only Tests those, who so profess and thus, are closest to ..
Regarding Alcoholism... It can start as an Escape from Reality, or just for the fun of it ... but in a few years time, this turns into a "Physiological condition.
It can be controlled, in the initial stages ... if the 'trigger' is removed, like what irritates or who encourages one to reach for the bottle ...
Thus, in early stages, it is a "Psychological" Condition... but later on, when it becomes "Physiological" ... it Needs Medical supervision, Emotional Rehabilitation, and personal care, of the confirmed Alcoholic.
Alcoholism according to me is not much of an issue as smoking. I have been away from even a sip of beer since 5 months and I am not even putting an effort at it. Before that, I used to have beer 5-6 times a month.
Its all in the mind and the people around you, the environment you have around you that matters.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
