What wood floor color would look good with dark cherry colored stained trim?

We currently have light tan colored carpet & vinyl flooring with a "coffee with cream" color for the walls. The trim & cabinets are dark cherry colored so matched wood flooring seems like it would be too dark. I was thinking of a lighter maple wood similar in color to the carpet but I'm not sure about mixing wood colors.

Cherry, Honduran Mahogany, Jatoba (also called Brazillian Cherry) usually lean towards the reddish side, whereas Walnut, African Mahogany, Sapele tend to lean towards the brown side.

I have African Mahogany crown with a polyurethane clear on it (darkened it a tad, but didn't change the color), and used Cumaru (a.k.a. Brazilian Teak) for my flooring. Both woods are darker brown.

My door casing (with the exception of my entry casing, which is African Mahogany), window casing, and chair rail/wainscot are all panited. My house isn't big (1,100 sq ft), and at first I thought it might be too dark, thus making it feel small. It didn't do that at all.

It looks great. So my advice would be, just make sure you're not mixing too many tones. If you're into the cherry stains, make sure you stay in the red family.

There are many wood stains with reddish hues, so I'd stay with that. Otherwise, I would go a little lighter with the flooring (Maple, as you mentioned) which might be a really cool contrast. My grandmother has a really old table with Mahogany and Hard Maple inlays.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
