If you are mobile... moving... I like the gyro stablizers for cameras. They are quite amazing. Do a Google on "Gyro stablized camera" to see some.

Very attention getting too if you like that as the camera seems to float in air in front of you people are drawn to it out of utter amazement. Otherwise I have a heavy cheapo I use from time to time... with tripods, the lighter the more expensive.

Wow, just checked some of this stuff out...never seen anything like this before. Thanks Jay...quite amazing. I was, though, just looking for something more basic.

I photograph landscapes, macro & abstract details, etc, and although I like the look (& the price) of something like the Manfrotto 190 series, they are still pretty big (not TOO heavy, just long when folded) for traveling with. I'm hoping to find someone who has a tripod with the kind of statistics like the 190, but that can fold down smaller...maybe lighter, too, but mainly smaller while still extending to a height where I don't have to stoop over TOO much to look through the viewfinder! I have a fairly light outfit, so it doesn't need to support a great weight.

Thanks again for your reply. Cheers,Wayne stillpoint 10 months ago .

I travel with a monopod. They start at around $20, and go up. Mine is basic, and is in fact used by backpackers because it is so lightweight. It is about 18" collapsed and telescopes out to six feet.

The beauty of it is - it is an adjustable walking stick when the camera isn't screwed into the top, and is in fact designed for the walking function, with an adjustable bottom tip for either pavement or dirt. If your camera has image stabilization, this might be all you need unless you're doing long exposures.

Thanks, mamapat. I have thought of a monopod, but (as you say) for the times when I do longer exposures it might not be so good. By the way, I realise a monopod would give support and stability in preventing up & down movement, but do you find it helpful in keeping the set-up steady in a side-to side fashion?

I wonder about that. I guess if you have stability in one direction it frees you to concentrate on keeping things steady in the other, yourself...one direction to worry about instead of two! You have got me thinking...thanks again.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
