Manfrotto is my preferred choice for tripods. I have a heavy duty one and my boss uses one like the link below but with a different head. This should hold up well for you and not be too heavy.BH Photo is a great place to buy photo gear as well.
They have a great web site, and if you can you get to talk to a real person.
For the tripod head I'd recommend Manfrotto. A good Manfrotto head will set you back about $100, but in the long run it's worth it. For the base you'll wanna check out either Manfrotto, Gitzo and Velbon.
They all make the best light weight and high quality tripods.
I suppose this answer depends on the type of shooting you are doing however in terms of 'bang for the buck' I believe the Joby Gorillapod is at the top of the list. It is sturdy, takes a beating, will hold exactly what you need and much more if you go higher up their rung. The reason I believe this to be the best value is because of its infinite creative uses as well as being able to be straightened out and stood up just like any other tripod (if not quite as tall) joby.com/products/gorillapod/slr/ It is worth noting that they announced a ball head attachment at PMA however I do not see it on their website.(joby.com/press/releases/20090302/) The ball head would be useful for the next two models up from the SLR but I don't think your camera will weigh enough to require either of those.
-------------- Another option speaking of manfrotto. This tripod is on my personal wish list as it has the option to take the center tube out and orient it horizontally. This is something that makes it a bit of a diamond in the rough in my opinion.
Especially at this price point. amazon.com/Manfrotto-190XPROB-Section-Al... And I don't know enough about heads to recommend a specific one but here is the one I've picked to buy as its also pretty affordable amazon.com/Manfrotto-486RC2-Compact-Conn....
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
