What's a credit grantor?

A credit grantor is the person or organization that lends money, services or goods, expecting repayment in the future. If you have had a loan with a credit grantor and have a regular and prompt payment history, it helps you establish a good credit rating.

A credit grantor is a company that offers lines of credit or financial services to consumers with the agreement that the consumer will pay the back the amount being borrowed with interest over an extended period of time. For example, if you have a credit card with Chase, Bank of America, or American Express, these would be your credit grantors. In each case, the consumer is extended a line of credit and is expected to pay the borrowed amount(s) back to the grantor and with interest if the balances are carried over more than one month.

Other examples of credit grantors are banks, mortgage loan companies, and auto financing companies as well. If you have a solid payment history with your creditors, it will increase your credit score and help you obtain lower interest rates on future accounts.
