People with Bipolar are notorious for going off their meds. I did it once in ignorance not knowing anything about my disorder or about going off meds. Not a good outcome.
But I have taken my meds faithfully ever since. My 19 year old son keeps going off his meds, abruptly. So each time he does this, his disorder gets worse. No he is dealing with suicidal ideation.
He says the meds have too many side effects, they don't work, and he will never take an antipsychotic again. He has agreed to go to the doc again with me so we can at least talk about it and learn more about his disorder and the process of finding the right meds. I meet people with BP at the hosptial all the time who went off their meds.
I will take weight gain, grogginess and other side effects any day over walking around delusional, hallucintating, and suicidal. Sometimes if you give it some time, the side effects settle down. Its very difficult.
But my life is more livable with the meds. Good question.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
