Where, when, who , what, why, and how.... All these aspects determine "best" place. For me it was the city of Corolla on the Outer Banks of NC last March. My daughters and their husbands and my one son-in-law's father rented a vacation home in the pre-season.
There were 9 of us all together and 2 dogs made 11. We were there for a week, during which time we toured the entire OBX from North of Corolla to the outermost tip of Ocracoke. We climbed the Currituck lighthouse and visited Black Beard's hideout area.
We had marvelous food and new experiences. Driving on the sand toward Virginia was great fun, even when we got stuck trying to get over a sand dune. Fortunately, you're not allowed to drive on the beach unless you have 4-wheel drive.
Another week the tourist season would start. Besides being practical, we missed hordes of tourists, and as we were leaving OBX already the traffic was unpleasantly heavy. Wonderful memories, wonderful pictures.

My Favorite Place Ever - Ireland I have been fortunate enough to visit many countries in my lifetime and by far the best place I have ever visited has been Ireland. It is beautiful and for many reasons. The colors and shades of green are magnificent.
The people are kind with a keen sense of humor and truly enjoy sharing their country with tourist. The food is great and the beer is cold not to mention you have many choices to choose from. I absolutely am going back and am taking my sister and 2 friends with me 2010.
I encourage any and everyone to cross the Atlantic to Ireland, it will be a trip of a lifetime I assure you. Google Map View Larger Map .
Japan. My favorite city in the world is Osaka, closely followed by Kyoto, then followed by just about anywhere else in Japan. Why did I like it?
Too many reasons to list, so I will just list the ones that rank highest. Food, culture, history, shopping, gadgets, life experience... Favorite experience while in Japan was hiking through the cedar forests on Mount ei in between Enryakuji (temple) and the cable car on the other side of the mountain, while thunder peeled through the mountains and mist clouds clung to temple buildings and pagodas that were nestled in the trees far away from the usual crowds of tourists and school children. Would I go again?
Of course! Been 4 times, can’t wait to go back... in fact, it is so hard to make myself travel anywhere else despite the awful flight. Why did I go?
I always wanted to go to Japan and then one day about 6 or 7 years ago I suddenly had the thought, "well, why not just go? " and so I went! At 22 years old I worked to save up the money and I gambled on a solo trip to Japan that would last nearly 6 weeks.
I rented a room in an apartment to save money, bought a cheap plane ticket, and really hoped my roommates would be good people (they were great! ). That trip was scheduled for May-early July, but in late January a Japanese friend invited me to come out for the annual ice festival in Hokkaido.
That was the most random adventure of my life... within two weeks of that conversation I was on a plane bound for Japan with the intention of basically staying three nights and coming home. The festival was great and it really helped soothe my worries about the upcoming trip. And it was the most interesting request for time off I ever made too, "Um, hi, I need next weekend off... why?
Oh I am going to Japan..." The third trip came about when a college professor (Japanese history) lamented that he wanted to take a group of students to Japan but it was too expensive. I immediately approached him and told him it was not that expensive, and that lead to my helping organize an annual summer "study tour" to Kyoto for the college. The fourth trip was my honeymoon last year.
We spent 3 weeks in Osaka in the same apartment I had rented years earlier. To recap Trip 1: was random trip to ice festival in Hokkaido because I was invited; Trip 2: almost 6 weeks just because I wanted to; Trip 3: 3 week college history course in Kyoto; Trip 4: 3 week honeymoon in Osaka... loved every minute even when my feet felt like bloody stumps and would go back in a heart beat..
Paris, France I was there with a friend who spoke French and English, which condition I won't have again. One of the most pleasant things I did there was sitting at the outdoor cafe, under an umbrella, in the rain or not, drinking a beer/espresso/whatnot and enjoying being elsewhere. I no longer drink alcohol either.
I wouldn't go again, but what really impressed me about Paris was the ability to walk from one end of the city to the other and catch an easily accessed commuter rail back home. My friend and I did a lot of walking and saw a lot of the city, which is perhaps why the cafe-sitting was special: it was always somewhere new.
1 I know you asked for one but I have to go with two...For my children, I will say Disneyland...It was amazing to watch the little boogers get excited over seeing Mickey Mouse, seeing Crush, and one of the all around best weeks I've ever had...For myself and the children, I will have to say Germany. I spent 6 weeks exploring the entire coutnry and was able to spend a night sleeping in a castle (my kids got to be princes and princesses for a night), was able to explore the entire autobahn network, and I really got to enjoy and learn about my heritage...

Anywhere in the world and try to describe why...
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
