True, we need to be pleasing. But we also want to stand up for what is right. The trick is to do both.It can be done.
Most of the time anyway. I started my discussions on computers defending President Clinton against a pack of lies and misrepresentations. Then later on I did the same for President Bush.
It seemed that everything that they said about President Clinton, they also used against President Bush. I suspect a paid group that post for money. They write as if they have a list of charges to use.

That was fun. Now when I try to get involved I run inth "discussions are closed. " and can not say anything at all.
Guess they work to protect the writer's egos. I am no fan of Rich and Dowd.

Just like in an email you have to be careful what you write. I know some of the Askvillers that have a wonderful sense of humor and some people rate them down because they do not understand them. Dry sense of humor and a little sarcasm..... it can be funny but not to everybody.
You will get compliments if you answer from experience. Tell a little story, what you did to resolve the problem and the conclusion. Frustration sets it when people question the way you think when in reality we are worlds apart.
Thinking exactly the same way does not help you grow.
I've noticed that the answers other answerers most often compliment (in their own answers) are those that are specifically knowledgeable. There is little substitute for actually knowing your subject; most here can cut thru the posing and malarkey.
All good suggestions. Be honest, and answer the things you are sure of, and treat the question with the same respect you would want your question treated. It is difficult to avoid humor and if it is funny humor and not deprecating it is worth a try.In general, people haven't directly answered home work questions, but they can be answered by steering the thoughts.
As you read some of the answers by those that know their business you will learn a lot, refresh what you already know, or extend what you know. This is a nice place to do these things, and hopefully it will improve to the old standards.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
