Peter Lawford: The Man Who Kept the Secrets" by James Spada This biography was a surprisingly good book, one of the most interesting among all biographies I’ve read. It covered topics about the old british high society, zoom on unusual aspects of US election campains, insight on the Kennedy family, facts about stars like Marilyn, Sinatra, etc. I gave it a 10/10! Father Joe by Tony Hendra After reading several positive reviews of the book in newspapers and magazines, I was still surprised by this spiritual memoir. Tony Hendra, who was influential in British and American comedy in the 1960s and 1970s -- he was in early comic troupes with John Cleese and Graham Chapman (both later of Monty Python), and in 1970 became an editor of the new "National Lampoon" magazine. Reading this, I expected the book to be humorous, which it is.
But I was surprised by the depth of religious feeling in it, by the boldness, and occasional rawness, of Hendra's descriptions of his own faith struggles and successes, and by the genuine affection and reverence Hendra holds for his spiritual mentor, a monk named Father Joe. William Osler "William Osler, A Life in Medicine" by Michael Bliss details the life of the most influential doctor of the early 20th century. He had the courage to realize that most of the medical treatments of those times did more harm than good and began a school of therapeutic nihilism that was humble and humanistic. It fit those times perfectly.

Mother Angelica: The Remarkable Story of a Nun, Her Nerve, and a Network of Miracles" I bought this book on a whim while visiting a shrine almost two years ago and it languished in my stack until last month because once I got home with it I decided that it was going to be one boring book. Once I started reading it though I found it to be fascinating and I couldn’t put the thing down. The title was correct in that this was a truly remarkable story and a well written one to boot.
