Boxing Day is celebrated on December 26th, the day after Christmas. It is observed in Canada, Australia, Austria, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and some Commonwealth nations. Usually if Boxing Day falls on a weekend day, the following Monday will be observed as a banking holiday.
Boxing Day began originally in England as a holiday for the working class or also known as merchant class workers. Members of the merchant class would give boxes containing fruit, food, clothing, and/or money to trades people and servants. Since the gifts are presented in boxes, the holiday is called Boxing Day.
Popular sports around this holiday are soccer, hunting, and horse racing. Retailers hold big sales and discount items marking this the busiest shopping day of the year in Canada.
Boxing day has come to be the big shopping day in commonwealth countries where it is celebrated, much like "Black Friday" is here. It originally referred to the "box" i.e. Gift or gratuity that you gave your service people.
I suspect because the society is so stratified in the UK, that in the olden days - it would be hard to give servants the day off on Christmas and still run a large household - so some kind of custom arose of giving them the day after Christmas off.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
